Samsung TV Optical Out No Sound Solved

Before you start getting audio from external speakers, you should make sure you have done things right. Don’t worry if you have done anything wrong as we will guide you properly today.

Solution 1: Check and Adjust Settings on Samsung TV

Follow the steps below to get sound back from your Samsung TV when it is connected to external speakers using optical out.

#1 Change Audio Output

Applying the wrong audio settings causes this issue. For example, the audio device is not chosen correctly. Here is how to check and fix it:

  1. Using a Samsung TV remote, go to the settings menu of your TV.
  2. From settings hover to the sound section.
  3. From the sound section, make sure the sound output is set to Audio out/Optical instead of TV speakers.

#2 Go To Expert Settings

  1. After changing the Audio output, go back to the sound section.
  2. Then, hover down to Expert Settings.
  3. Change both HDMI Input Audio Format and Digital Output Audio Format to PCM.

#3 Change Audio/Sound Settings

  1. Now go to the Audio/Sound settings of your Samsung TV click Audio Out and then select Optical.
  2. There may be other options like HDMI ARC and Internal TV Speakers but you have to select Optical.
  3. When you click on Optical, you will have some other options to select from. You have to select Digital Out Sound (PCM).

#4 Test Audio

  1. After changing all these settings, play audio from your Samsung TV.
  2. Listen to if the sound plays through external speakers.
  3. Sound must play from external speakers and if it not, there must be some physical problem as all the settings are done fine.

Solution 2: Test the Optical Cable

Another reason for the problem is that the optical cable may be defective. It cannot transmit the signals. Hence, you should examine the cable.

Look for any cuts, bends, twists, or broken areas. Repair or tap the small cuts. Change the cable if it is too worn out.

You can also check the cable by connecting it to some other device, and notice if it works or not. The signals are lost if the cable is too long. Hence, use a cable shorter than 6 feet in length.

Solution 3: Reset Your Samsung TV

Sometimes, the TV cannot detect the connected cables or devices. If you restart or reset the TV, it can start working normally:

  1. First of all, turn OFF your TV using the remote or the physical power button.
  2. Now, unplug its power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for 5 minutes until the TV drains its power and capacitors fade.
  4. Now, connect the power source back to the TV and turn it ON.
  5. If this does not work, reset the audio settings on your TV. This option can be found in the settings menu.

Solution 4: Try A Different Cable

If after following all the steps, you are unable to hear sound when your Samsung TV is connected to external speakers using an Optical cable, you need to replace the optical cable.

If you have another optical cable, you should plug that into the TV and check if it works. You can also buy a new optical cable.

Another option is to use a different connection cable such as HDMI. You can also connect your smart Samsung TV and soundbar/speaker wirelessly via Bluetooth.

Solution 5: Check the Ports

If it still doesn’t work, there could be a problem with the ports on either your Samsung TV or external speakers.

Inspect the connection ports carefully. Plug the cable and observe if it fits firmly or jiggles around. Likewise, clean the ports as the debris can prevent the connection.
