A Simple Hack to Turn ON JBL Flip 6

I am suggesting one of the easiest and most immediate methods. I have tried it for various JBL speakers including Flip,3, 4, 5 and Flip 6. Follow these steps:

  1. First, you need to understand the buttons on your device. JBL Flip 6 is a simple Bluetooth speaker with 6 buttons in total.
  2. The power and pairing (Bluetooth) buttons are located side by side.
  3. On the front, volume, play/pause and Party Boost buttons are installed.
  4. Now, your job is to hold down all the buttons together for 10-15 seconds.
  5. Then, press the power button or power+ Party Boost button one time.
  6. You can do it alone or can take help from some other person.
  7. Keep holding the button and the device will come ON.
  8. You can try this hack twice or thrice. But, I am pretty sure that it works.

How to Confirm Your JBL is Not Charging?

JBL Flip 6 has a battery status gauge at the top. This indicator light is next to the power and Bluetooth buttons. It blinks white and red to inform about the battery percentage.

Pulsing red light means that the battery is running low. When you connect the charger, the light turns white. However, if the lights keep blinking red even after several minutes of connecting to the power, it indicates that the device is not charging.

Another way to confirm the charging is by touching the speaker. It should feel warm after 10-15 minutes of connecting the power. No warmth indicates failure in the charging mechanism.

Why is JBL Flip 6 not Charging or Turning ON

The reasons behind the charging and not turning ON issues are almost similar and related. So, we can apply the same solutions to fix both problems.

This speaker contains lithium-ion batteries. It can be charged via a USB/AC adapter. There can be various reasons if your speakers have stopped charging.

Let us first consider these reasons briefly, then we will move to the solutions.

  • The power outlet has no current supply
  • The USB adapter is damaged or incompatible
  • The charging cable is too long, too weak or broken
  • Flip 6 battery is faulty or expired

Smart Hacks to Fix Both Issues

After knowing the causes, you can easily fix the device. You just need to double-check all the things. It will help you identify the faulty equipment. Then, you can fix it at home. Sometimes, a simple technique works to fix such problems.

1. Inspect the Power Outlet

One of the most common reasons behind charging issues is a faulty power outlet. It may have little or no current supply.

This happens due to defective circuits, tripped breakers, damaged internal wiring or power failure. The simple trick is to connect some other electrical item such as a light bulb to the same outlet.

Check the circuit breakers and reset them if necessary. Another way is to plug your JBL into a different outlet that is delivering enough current.

2. Check the USB Adapter

As you know, your JBL Flip 6 uses a USB adapter to connect to the power supply. It should be working well and should be compatible.

This speaker requires a 3 amps at 5 volts power supply. The charging time is almost 2.5 hours. Read the specification written on the adapter to confirm its compatibility.

Always use the original or compatible adapter that was provided with your speaker. An incompatible or third-party charger will not output the required energy.

Another factor is the age of the charger, a too-old adapter cannot perform well. So, you need to check both these aspects. Try another adapter for the time being or buy a new one.

3. Examine the Charging Cable

A fine charging cable is essential for proper charging. Sometimes, the cable is too long, the power is lost in the way.

Likewise, a too-thin cable cannot transfer the full amount of the power it receives. Ideally, the length of the cable should be up to 6 feet. Moreover, it should carry at least 3 amps.

Also, examine the cable for any broken or exposed areas. Replace the cable with a new one to resolve the charging issue.

4. Inspect the Charging Port

A faulty or broken charging port can lead to such issues. It happened to me many times. My smartphone, laptop, speaker or other smart devices fail to charge sometimes.

I simply clean the charging ports and plug the charger properly. As you know the ports are exposed and they can easily accumulate dust/debris.

Thus, the charging cable cannot fit properly. Use a toothbrush or toothpick to remove all the dust or debris from inside. Blow gently to ensure cleaning and connect the charger again.

5. Restore to Factory Settings

A hard or factory reset is the ultimate solution to a number of problems. If your speaker is not charging, try a factory reset on it.

However, this method removes all the saved information and data. You must initiate the speaker like you did for the first time. Here are the steps:

  • Turn ON your JBL Flip 6 by pressing the Power button.
  • Now, press and hold down the Play/Pause and Volume+ buttons at the same time.
  • Release the buttons after 5-10 seconds or until the device turns OFF.
  • The automatic turning OFF indicates that the factory reset has been done.
  • Wait a few moments and press the Power button to turn ON the speaker.

6. Check the Internal Circuit

Another cause behind the no charging issue is that the internal circuit of the speaker is damaged. The internal components and systems are very tiny.

Water damage or physical shock can destroy any of the delicate components. In such as case, the circuit delivers false information.

The battery may be receiving the current but the red light continues blinking. It is due to the wrong message. The best solution is to buy a new JBL speaker, it is a good idea if your existing device is too old.

7. Replace Faulty or Dead Battery

In most cases, either the charging tools or the power supply is the cause. However, the battery of the speaker can also be the culprit. The battery can die if it is too old.

It can be damaged due to water contact or physical shock. Although JBL Flip 6 is waterproof with an IP67 rating, the broken moisture seal can let the water enter into the battery.

So, check the moisture seal and any parts of the device for corrosion. If nothing works, you need to replace the battery, for this, you will have to open the speaker which is not a recommended action.

Instead, you must consult the manufacturer or an expert technician. You can find JBL-certified batteries as well as third-party products. Be sure to buy the one that provides 3.6 volts at 4.8 amp hours.
